TickRate

by Ninjaking312

With TickRate, server owners can set different tick rates for chunks and entities, so parts of a world can run slower or faster than the rest of the server.

FabricServer required, client optionalMIT LicenseOpen source1.21.1 – 26.3

What it does

TickRate lets a server assign a tick rate to individual chunks and entities. Entities with a specific rate follow the rate of the chunk they are in, while chunks with a specific rate follow the server's own tick rate. Entities can run at a different rate from one another, and client animations are smoothed for entities and chunks that tick below 20 TPS.

The mod is set up through commands with detailed syntax explanations. Arguments for the tick entity and tick chunk commands resemble those of vanilla's tick command, and selector syntax matches vanilla rules. A chunk can be chosen by one chunk, a rectangular area, or a circular area defined by a radius, using XYZ block coordinates or chunk coordinates. The author describes the result as generally smoother and less buggy play.

TickRate is published for Fabric only and requires Fabric API. The server must run it, while players may add it for smoother animations. The mod is open source under the MIT License, and it covers the 1.21.1 – 26.3 range with 15 release versions, the latest Fabric file being 0.7.2-26.3 for 26.3 on the beta channel. Its first release dates to 2024-11-27, and the last update to 2026-09-16.

Key features

  1. Per-chunk tick rates

Chunks can each tick at a chosen rate, while the rest of the world follows the server's default.

  2. Per-entity tick rates

Individual entities can be assigned a rate, and they follow the rate of the chunk they are in.

  3. Chunk area selection

A single chunk, a rectangular area or a circular area around a radius can be picked for a rate change.

  4. Vanilla-style commands

The tick entity and tick chunk commands accept arguments in the same form as vanilla tick commands.

  5. Smoothed client animations

Animations of entities and chunks running below 20 TPS are smoothed on the client.
