No Slow motion

by henryyuyhy

No Slow motion lets a server run its tick rate below the normal 20 ticks per second, so redstone and builds can be watched at a slower pace.

What it does

The mod sets the server tick rate to a value under 20 through a command, which lets a builder step through redstone contraptions or machines at a slower speed. It falsifies the tick rate update packet the server sends to clients, so players connected to the server do not need to install anything. The mod is a revival of the behavior first offered by the Carpet mod, and it was updated for Minecraft 1.21. The project is open source under the MIT License, with source code published on GitHub. Its author asks for bug reports on that repository, since side effects may appear when the tick rate is changed.

Key features

  1. Lower tick rate command

A command sets the server tick rate to any value below 20, slowing game time for the whole world.

  2. No client install needed

Players connected to the server need nothing extra, because the tick rate packet they receive is adjusted on the server side.

  3. Redstone observation

Slowed ticks make it possible to watch redstone circuits and machines operate step by step.

What the author says

One day you updated your Minecraft to 1.21. You typed /tick rate 5 in the command line, hoping to watch your redstone build operate in slow motion. And you soon found out that you are also moving in slow motion
