Simple Item Editor
by White_145
Simple Item Editor lets a player change the name, lore, enchantments and other data of the item in hand through client-side commands, without a creative inventory or server access.
What it does
Item editing runs through commands typed on the client, so the changes apply only to the player's own items and do not need a server running the mod. Fabric API is required, and the mod is published for Fabric alone, with builds covering 1.20.1 – 26.3 and the latest file, 0.2.0, targeting 26.3.
The commands accept vanilla formatting codes, hex colors and translatable text such as entity.minecraft.zombie, and a list of argument options can be viewed from inside the game. Escape sequences with a backslash, including the xXX, uXXXX and n forms, let text contain characters that would otherwise break a command. The mod is inspired by item editors found on creative servers, but it works on single-player worlds as well.
The source code and an issue tracker are public. The code is under the MIT License, so the mod is open source, and it was first published on 2023-07-26 and last updated on 2026-09-18.
Key features
Client-side item commands
Commands edit the item held by the player, so no server-side permission or operator status is involved.
Formatting codes and hex colors
Item names and lore accept vanilla formatting codes and six-digit hex colors for custom text styling.
Translated text
A translation key such as entity.minecraft.zombie can be inserted, so the item shows the localized name instead of plain text.
Escape sequences
A backslash escape, with xXX, uXXXX or n forms, allows special characters and line breaks inside command arguments.
Argument list
The available edit command arguments can be listed in game, so the syntax does not have to be memorized.

How it compares
Simple Crosshair Editor is a different client-side tool that changes the crosshair, not items, and is published for 1.21 – 26.3 under the Apache License 2.0. Nodex is also client-side and open source, under the GNU Lesser General Public License v2.1 or later, but its files cover 1.20.5 – 26.1.2. Command Block Editor is client and server and not open source, released under the MIT License for 1.21 – 1.21.11, so it needs installing on both sides.
