ShadowCrates
by KrripeYT
ShadowCrates lets server administrators create, configure and manage crates that players open with a special crate key on Fabric servers.
What it does
A crate is defined in a JSON file that lists its rewards, opening animation, sounds, particle effects and the key item needed to open it. A prize arrives with the enchantments, custom model data and attributes it was configured with. Animations are configured by step count, interval and opening effects, and each crate can use its own particle effect for the opening sequence.
The mod is server-side only, so players join without installing it and clients need nothing. It runs on Fabric and requires Fabric API, Fabric Language Kotlin, LuckPerms and Text Placeholder API. Cobblemon is optional, and when it is present the mod supports Cobblemon items in crate displays. Files cover 1.21 – 1.21.3 under the GNU General Public License v3.0 only, and the project is not open source.
Key features
Configurable crates
Administrators create and manage crates through JSON definitions, including rewards, key items and effects.
Custom rewards and animations
Reward items keep enchantments and custom model data, and animation steps and intervals can be set per crate.
Particle and sound effects
Each crate can use its own particle effect and unique sounds for the opening and for winning a reward.
Commands and permissions
Custom commands run when a player wins a reward, and LuckPerms permissions restrict specific crates to chosen players.
Customizable messages
Messages, GUI titles and lore can be edited with full RGB color support.

Use cases
Reward chests on a survival server
An administrator can give players keys for rewards and set the animation and sounds for each crate.
Rank-locked crates
With LuckPerms, a crate can be limited to players holding a given permission, such as a donor rank.
Who it’s for: Server administrators who want a crate system on a Fabric server, with permissions and custom rewards. Players only need the server; nothing is installed on their side.
How it compares
SkiesCrates is server-side only, open source under the Mozilla Public License 2.0, and published for 1.21.1. Void Crates runs on client and server, is not open source under the MIT License, and is also built for 1.21.1. Both cover a different version than ShadowCrates, which targets 1.21 – 1.21.3.
