Void Crates

by realpookiebro

Void Crates is a Fabric mod that adds six animated crate blocks, one for each rarity tier, for servers and players on 1.21.1.

FabricClient and serverMIT License1.21.1

What it does

Common Crate through Mythic Crate are six placeable blocks, and each one carries a distinct model, texture, glow and GeckoLib opening animation, which makes the rarity tiers readable at a glance. The blocks are a visual layer: they show the crate and its opening, while the reward itself is handled elsewhere.

Rewards are connected through configurable commands, so a server owner can hook the crates into an existing crate, key or rank reward system rather than replacing it. The mod does not provide a crate economy, reward plugin or key system of its own. It runs on the Fabric loader for 1.21.1 only, and the files are released under the MIT License, which is not open source.

The mod is Client and server, so the server and every player need it. Its latest Fabric file is 1.0.24 for 1.21.1, published on 2026-06-28, after the first release on 2026-06-06.

Key features

  1. Six animated crate blocks

Common, Uncommon, Rare, Epic, Legendary and Mythic crates are placeable blocks, each with a distinct look.

  2. GeckoLib opening animations

Each crate plays a 3D opening animation built with GeckoLib when it is opened.

  3. Rarity-based visual progression

Glow and model style change from the lower tiers to the higher ones, so a crate's rank is visible on sight.

  4. Configurable reward commands

Rewards run through commands that the server owner can edit, letting crates connect to an outside reward setup.

Use cases

Visual layer for an existing crate system

A server that already handles rewards with commands or a plugin can place these blocks as the visible crate and keep its current logic.

Spawn and hub decoration

Placed crates with their own glow and opening animations can mark reward areas on a hub or spawn.

Who it’s for: Server owners who run a crate, key or rank reward setup and want a visual crate layer on Fabric for 1.21.1, and players who join those servers.

How it compares

Full comparison

ShadowCrates is server-side only and runs on Fabric for 1.21 – 1.21.3 under the GNU General Public License v3.0 only, so players can join without installing it. LUCKY OPENER is client and server on Fabric for 1.21.1 only and is released under All rights reserved, the same version as Void Crates. TD-Rarity is client-side only on Fabric for 1.21.4 – 26.3 under All rights reserved, so it covers newer versions than this mod.

Questions

Does Void Crates need a server install?

Yes. Servers that run it need every player to install it too.

Does Void Crates replace a crate plugin?

No. It provides the animated blocks and connects rewards through configurable commands, so an existing reward system stays in use.

Which Minecraft versions does Void Crates support?

Only 1.21.1. The Fabric files are built for that version, and the latest file is 1.0.24 for 1.21.1.
