LuckPerms

by lucko

Server owners who need to decide which players can use which features can rely on LuckPerms, a permissions system that works through groups and assigned permissions.

FabricForgeNeoForgeServer-side onlyMIT LicenseOpen source1.8.8 – 26.3

What it does

Permissions are assigned to groups and players rather than handed out one by one. A server admin sets up a group, grants it a set of permission nodes, and then places players into it. Changes made to a group apply to every member at once, and a player can belong to several groups at the same time.

LuckPerms runs on the server side only, so players join without installing anything. It is published for Fabric, Forge and NeoForge, and for server platforms such as Paper, Spigot, Bukkit, Folia, Velocity, BungeeCord and Waterfall. Files exist for 1.8.8 – 26.3, and the latest builds are v5.5.85 for Fabric and Forge and v5.5.87 for NeoForge, both for 26.3. The code is open source under the MIT License. Thirty-six other catalog mods require it, including Carbon Chat, Rib (Roanoke Library), ShadowCrates, BEconomy and Telepost.

Key features

  1. Group-based permissions

Permission nodes are granted to groups, and players inherit them by membership, which keeps large server setups manageable.

  2. Multiple setup methods

Permissions can be set with in-game commands, edited directly in configuration files, or managed through a web editor.

  3. Several storage backends

Permission data can be kept in a range of storage options, so the same setup can suit small servers and large networks.

  4. Cross-platform support

The system works across mod loaders and proxy or server platforms such as Velocity and BungeeCord.

  5. Customisable settings

A wide set of options lets admins adjust how permissions are evaluated and stored to match their server.

Use cases

Ranks on a community server

A server owner creates ranks such as moderator or builder as groups and grants each one its commands.

Restricting features

Admins deny certain permission nodes to the default group, so new players cannot reach features reserved for members.

Who it’s for: Server owners and administrators who manage player access on Minecraft servers, including networks that run a proxy in front of several backend servers.
