spark
by lucko
Lag on a server or client can be traced to its cause with spark, a profiler that samples CPU activity and memory use and shows the results in an online viewer.
What it does
spark records statistical samples of what the system is doing and builds a call graph from them. The graph is shown in an online viewer, where the user can read where time is spent. The profiler is used to diagnose low tick rate, high CPU usage and similar symptoms of lag. Two profiler engines are available: a native one based on async-profiler and perf events, which works only on x86 64 systems running a particular operating system, and a built-in Java ThreadMXBean engine derived from the WarmRoast profiler by sk89q.
Memory inspection tools help track down memory problems on a server. Server health metrics summarise the overall state of the server, and tick rate averages can be supplemented by monitoring individual ticks. When a single tick exceeds a set threshold, a report is sent, which helps relate slow ticks to other system or game events. Spark works on either side, and neither side needs it, under the GNU General Public License v3.0 only, and is open source. Tab List, BetterF3 - Spark Module and My Well Has Run Dry require it.
Key features
CPU profiler
Samples CPU activity and builds a call graph that can be opened in the online viewer for analysis.
Memory inspection
Tools for finding the causes of memory problems in a running server or client.
Server health reporting
Metrics that summarise the overall health of a server, including tick rate averages.
Per-tick monitoring
Sends a report whenever one tick's duration passes a configured threshold, so slow ticks can be compared with other events.
Light to run
Built to run in production with little overhead, and needs no configuration before first use.
Compatibility
Latest build for each game version and loader.
