Ruined Equipment

by Pepperoni-Jabroni

Ruined Equipment turns a tool or armor piece into a Ruined version when its durability reaches 0, so the item keeps a memorial form instead of vanishing.

FabricClient and serverGNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 onlyOpen source1.16.2 – 1.20.4

What it does

When a tool or armor piece breaks, the break sound plays and the item becomes a Ruined variant, with a special texture and the Ashes of the original item dropped as a memento. Vanilla tools and swords, armors including the Turtle Shell, shears, flint and steel, the bow, crossbow, trident and fishing rod are all covered, and modded tools and armors can follow the same path.

Ruined items can be repaired at a crafting grid or an anvil, and upgraded with netherite scrap. Items with Mending repair while held in the hands and collect experience, and a name tag applied to an anvil can add lore to a Ruined item. Ruined Equipment runs on Fabric and needs Fabric API; Cloth Config API and Mod Menu are optional. It is published for 1.16.2 – 1.20.4 and runs on client and server, so the server and every player need it. The code is open source under the GNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 only, and public links exist for the source and the issue tracker.

Key features

  1. Ruined item forms

Breaking tools, weapons and armor leaves a Ruined variant with its own texture, instead of removing the item.

  2. Ashes drop

A breaking item also drops its Ashes, a keepsake-style item that marks the fallen equipment.

  3. Repair and upgrade

Ruined items are restored at a crafting grid or anvil, and netherite scrap upgrades them.

  4. Lore with name tags

Applying a name tag to a Ruined item on an anvil adds lore that records the item's story.
