What it does

Map Atlases is a Fabric mod with a craftable storage item made from a Filled Map, a Book and a sticky item, with Slimeball or Honey Bottle used by default. Filled Maps and Empty Maps can be placed into it in a crafting grid or at a table, and Maps added this way must share the same scale.

Each container holds up to 512 Maps by default, a limit that can be changed or switched off in the configuration. Shears and the container in the crafting grid remove Maps from it again. When the container sits in the hotbar or the off-hand, the map covering the player's current position is drawn on the HUD if one is stored inside.

The mod depends on Moonlight Lib. Map Atlases runs on client and server, so the server and every player need it. Its files target 1.16.2 – 26.1.2 on Fabric, and the code is under the GNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 only, which makes the project open source.

Key features

  1. Crafted storage item

The item is crafted from a Filled Map, a Book and a sticky item such as a Slimeball or Honey Bottle.

  2. Map insertion

Filled Maps and Empty Maps can be placed into it in a crafting grid or at a Cartography Table.

  3. Storage limit

Each item holds up to 512 Maps by default, a value that can be changed or disabled.

  4. HUD map display

The item in the hotbar or off-hand renders the map for the current position on the HUD when one is stored.
