ProjectileGhostFix

by lyosha

ProjectileGhostFix corrects projectile hit detection on the server so that arrows, ender pearls and other projectiles register hits on fast-moving targets.

FabricServer-side onlyThe UnlicenseOpen source1.21 – 26.1.2

What it does

The mod targets a gap in vanilla collision: a projectile that starts inside a target's hitbox, or whose path crosses a moving target within the same tick, can pass through without registering a hit. The fix catches those cases on the server. Where vanilla already detects a collision, the hit is left unchanged.

Server operators configure the behavior in-game, including per-pair overrides that use the form source.vs.target. Projectiles are selected by registry path, covering types such as wind charge, ender pearl and arrow, and the protected targets may be players or any other entity. Because collision is decided on the server, players on a multiplayer server need nothing installed. Only the server side is changed.

The mod requires Fabric Loader 0.19.2 or newer and Fabric API 0.149.1 or newer. It is published for Fabric only, for 13 release versions covering 1.21 – 26.1.2, with 1.1.0+mc26.1.2 as the latest file for 26.1.2. The code is released into the public domain under The Unlicense, and it is open source with public source code and an issue tracker.

Key features

  1. Hits from inside a hitbox

Projectiles that spawn inside a target's hitbox are checked, so hits at point-blank range register.

  2. Crossing during one tick

A projectile whose path crosses a moving target within the same tick is counted as a hit.

  3. Vanilla hits preserved

Collisions that vanilla already detects are not altered by the fix.

  4. In-game configuration

Operators adjust settings in-game, with per-pair overrides for specific projectile and target combinations.

What the author says

ProjectileGhostFix reduces server-side projectile ghosting against fast-moving targets. Without ProjectileGhostFix, vanilla projectile collision can miss cases where a projectile starts inside a target's hitbox or crosses a moving target during the same tick. Install on the server.
