PickMoreBlocks

by axialeaa

PickMoreBlocks extends the middle mouse button's picking behavior to cover blocks that vanilla handles inconsistently, from liquids to portals.

What it does

Middle-click picking in vanilla Minecraft leaves several situations unhandled. The mod extends the middle-click action to more block types, so a player can pick the item a block corresponds to without first selecting the block behind it. For liquids, aiming at water with a water bucket in hand, or at lava with a lava bucket, gives the matching bucket.

The mod is a client-side Fabric mod, so only the player's client needs it, and it requires Fabric API. The code is open source under the GNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 or later. Files are published for Fabric only, for 1.20.1 – 1.20.4, and the latest file is 1.0.2 for 1.20.4, released on 2023-12-07. A configuration menu is planned, since the author does not consider the features obvious or numerous enough for a fixed setup. Players who want the behavior turned off may need to change settings for the listed features. The author notes that TNT is handled the same way for consistency.

Key features

  1. Middle-click liquid buckets

Aiming at water or lava with the matching bucket in hand picks the bucket, without selecting the block behind it.

  2. Fire and portal picking

Middle-clicking fire or a nether portal gives a flint and steel, or a fire charge when no flint and steel is in the inventory.

  3. Gravity blocks and TNT

Middle-click picking also covers gravity-affected blocks and TNT, aligning them with the other supported blocks.

  4. Planned configuration menu

The author plans a configuration menu so the individual changes can be switched off.

What the author says

PickMoreBlocks is a client-side Fabric mod that attempts to fix what I believe to be small gaps in the vanilla middle mouse click functionality, making the creative and survival experience that little bit smoother! Currently, it affects the behaviour of falling blocks, TNT, fire, nether portals and liquids, with more…
