PolyPatcher
by Polyfrost
Players on Forge 1.8.9 and 1.12.2 who want Vanilla bugs fixed without changing gameplay can add PolyPatcher, a client-side Forge mod that bundles a set of fixes and small quality-of-life changes.
What it does
PolyPatcher collects a list of individual switches. Some correct Vanilla bugs: shaders are kept when the perspective changes, the hat layer is drawn in the Tab list, the black box around a player in the void is removed, Alex-model arms sit at the same height as Steve-model arms, and a 1.8 exploit that let servers browse directories is closed. Others change behavior: the camera no longer sits so far back that it looks like the eyes are behind the head, and a background is added to the book GUI to match other menus. A few fixes can have side effects, and the mod notes them, such as the F3 crosshair disappearing with the parallax fix or frustum culling becoming slower in some cases.
The mod also carries performance work. Special tile entities such as beacons are rendered once per frame instead of twice, unloaded sooner, vertex formats get fewer allocations, and known memory leaks in the texture manager and enchantment code are patched. Recent builds add a toggle for the OptiFine custom sky fix and fix alpha on container slots. The mod is published for Forge only, for 1.8.9 and 1.12.2, and bundles OneConfig. Its license is Creative Commons Attribution Non Commercial Share Alike 4.0, so the code is not open source, although the source and issue tracker are public.
Key features
Vanilla bug fixes

Shader and book GUI changes
Keeps Vanilla shaders active after a perspective change and adds a dark background to the book menu.
Rendering and memory optimizations
Renders special tile entities once per frame, unloads them faster and removes known leaks in the texture manager and enchantment code.

Use cases
Vanilla play on 1.12.2
A player who wants the 1.12.2 rendering and camera bugs corrected without adding a larger performance mod can install PolyPatcher alone.
Older 1.8.9 worlds
Players who keep a 1.8.9 setup can use the same set of fixes, including the resource exploit fix that protects against server directory browsing.
Who it’s for: PolyPatcher suits players who run Vanilla Forge clients on 1.8.9 or 1.12.2 and want the listed bug fixes and performance patches. Because only the client runs it, it does not need to be installed on servers.
How it compares
Model Fix covers the same 1.8.9 and 1.12.2 Forge range, is client-side only and is released under the GNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 or later, with open source code. MicroOptimizations is also client-side only and open source under the GNU Lesser General Public License v2.1 only, but it is published for 1.8.9 alone. Entity Culling targets 1.12.2 – 1.16.5 on Forge, is client-side only, and its license is All rights reserved, so its code is not open source.
