CrashPatch (Crash Preventer)

by Polyfrost

With CrashPatch installed, a game crash no longer closes the client outright: the mod keeps the window open and shows what went wrong, so the player can return to play.

FabricForgeOrnitheClient-side onlyCustom license1.8.9 – 26.3

What it does

CrashPatch is a client-side crash handler published under a custom license, and it is not open source. Only the client needs it, and the server can run without it. It requires Fabric Language Kotlin, Not Enough Crashes and OneConfig. OneConfig is bundled inside the mod, so the other two must be added separately on Fabric. Files exist for Fabric, Forge and Ornithe across 12 release versions, with builds covering 1.8.9 – 26.3.

When a crash happens, the mod opens a screen that names the mod suspected to be responsible. A single button brings the player back to the game without restarting the launcher. Disconnect screens can also display a fix when the reason matches one that CrashPatch recognizes. The project's source code and issue tracker are public, which allows bug reports to be filed against the mod directly.

Key features

  1. Suspected mod report

The crash screen names the mod that is most likely behind the failure, which narrows down where to look.

  2. Return to the game

One button resumes play after a crash, so the client does not have to be relaunched from the start.

  3. Fixes on disconnect

Disconnect screens show a suggested fix when the disconnect reason is one CrashPatch knows about.

Use cases

Modded play with many add-ons

Large modpacks with many mods can fail in ways that are hard to trace. The crash screen points to the likely cause without a manual log search.

Long sessions

Players who stay in a world for hours can keep going after a crash instead of losing the session.

Who it’s for: Players who run modded clients and want crashes to leave the game open, with a visible hint of what failed.

Questions

Does CrashPatch need Fabric Language Kotlin?

Yes. Fabric Language Kotlin is a required dependency, along with Not Enough Crashes and OneConfig. OneConfig is already bundled, so it does not need a separate install.

Does the server need CrashPatch?

No. Only the player's game needs it, and servers run without it.

Which version should be used for 26.3?

The latest Fabric file is v2.2.1 for 26.3, published 2026-10-14. Other game versions are covered by their own files.

What the author says

CrashPatch stops a crash from closing your game. You get a screen that tells you which mod probably caused it and how to fix it, and most of the time you can just keep playing. If the game crashes while it is still starting up there's nothing to go back to, but you still get the same screen with the cause and the…
