Balanced Ore Detector
by pinter.gabor
With Balanced Ore Detector, a player finds nearby ores by using detector items that scan the area around them, without carving out the whole world.
What it does
Balanced Ore Detector adds ore detectors that print the type and coordinates of ores they find. Each detector works like an echo locator: it emits a sound that bounces off solid surfaces, and the pitch, volume and return time depend on the block and its distance. Particles show which blocks reflected the sound, which helps identify the material. The mod is meant to make prospecting a little faster without hollowing out caves and underground layers, which older worlds often show as a swiss cheese pattern around level 10.
The detectors come in a basic and a focused variant. Focused detectors use a narrower beam, which reads ores more precisely but costs more to craft. The Coal Detector responds to galena, tin, lead, ruby and sapphire, while the Iron Detector also picks up silver and bauxite; the Gold Detector covers silver and iridium, and the Diamond Detector reads a longer list that takes in pyrite, cinnabar and tungsten. The Void Detector reacts to non-solid blocks such as air, water and lava.
The mod requires Cloth Config API and Fabric API, and Mod Menu is optional for the settings screen. Balanced Ore Detector runs on client and server, so the server and every player need it. Builds are published for Fabric and NeoForge across 20 release versions, 1.20.2 – 26.2, and the code is licensed under the MIT License.
Key features
Scanning ore detectors
Detectors print the type and coordinates of ores found in range, so a player can scan the world without digging through it.
Basic and focused variants
Focused detectors use a narrower beam for more accurate results, at a higher crafting cost than the basic versions.
Sound-based detection
Each detector emits a sound whose pitch, volume and return time reveal the distance and material of the block it hits.
Configurable detectors
Detector behavior can be adjusted in a settings screen, which requires Cloth Config API and is reachable through Mod Menu.
Void Detector
The Void Detector responds to non-solid blocks such as air, water and lava, as well as partly transparent blocks.

What the author says
Old Minecraft worlds look like swiss cheese. The underground, especially around level 10, is hollow and ugly. I have never liked it, and I decided to design various detectors to find ores without hollowing out the entire world. These ore detectors do not print out the type and coordinates of the found ores, and they…
