Arrow pointers

by pinter.gabor

Arrow pointers lets players place arrow blocks on the ground and walls to mark a route, a common need when mining or exploring caves.

FabricNeoForgeClient and serverMIT LicenseOpen source1.20 – 26.2

What it does

Aiming at the edge of a block sets down an arrow that points away from that edge, while aiming at its middle creates an X. Each placement consumes two arrows from the inventory. Placed arrows emit a faint light that stays visible in the dark, and spectral arrows give a brighter version suited to cave work.

The mod depends on Fabric API and runs on client and server, so the server and every player need it. Files are published for Fabric and NeoForge, covering game versions 1.20 – 26.2 in 23 release versions. The code is released under the MIT License and is open source, and the author notes that reading earlier Chalk code helped with writing this mod.

Two companion mods extend the same idea. Chalk Colorful Addon adds color variants for chalk marks, and Colorful Torches adds colored variants for torches. Both are listed as alternatives below.

Key features

  1. Directional arrow blocks

Arrows are placed by hitting the corner of a block, so a marked route points the way a player came or should go.

  2. Center marks

Hitting the center of a block places an X instead, marking a spot rather than a direction.

  3. Light from placed arrows

Placed arrows emit faint light that remains visible in dark caves, and spectral arrows give a brighter variant.

  4. Two arrows per placement

Each placement consumes two arrows from the inventory, so the number of marks a player can make depends on their supply.

Use cases

Cave and mining routes

Players mark a path through tunnels and ore veins so they can find their way back to the surface or a base.

Who it’s for: Players who explore caves or large mining areas, and server owners who want a shared marking system for travel between points. The mod is a decoration and equipment addition rather than a map or navigation overlay.

Yes. Fabric API is a required dependency, so it must be installed next to Arrow pointers on Fabric. The mod is also published for NeoForge, which needs no extra library.

Does Arrow pointers have to be installed on the server?

Yes. Servers that run it need every player to install it too.

Which game versions does Arrow pointers support?

Files cover 1.20 – 26.2 in 23 release versions. The latest Fabric and NeoForge files are both for 26.2, published 2026-07-14.

What the author says

Allows you to place arrows on any full block to aid you on your mining journeys. Never lose your way again. Hitting the corner of a block places an arrow pointing in that direction, hitting the center creates an X, but consumes 2 arrows. The placed arrows emit a faint light, and they are visible even in the dark…
