Most Important Question

by DrownedCloud

Most Important Question assigns each in-game day a hidden food category that players crave, willing to eat, or do not want to eat, and changes how much hunger each food restores.

FabricForgeNeoForgeClient and serverGNU General Public License v3.0 onlyOpen source1.20.1 – 26.1

What it does

Each game day the mod secretly picks one of three categories for the world. Food in the craving category restores more hunger and grants a special effect. Food players are unwilling to eat restores less hunger, and eating it comes with a real downside. Items that fall into the willing category are neither rewarded nor penalized. Every player on a server sees the day's pick as a per-player chat message in their own client language, and item tooltips show the current category.

Edible items are assigned to categories at random, and the assignment refreshes as the day changes. A config option lets a server owner pin named items to a fixed category, and the automatic recipe re-roll is adjustable too. Hunger changes are modeled on the vanilla food values, and AppleSkin is an optional dependency that makes the tooltips show the adjusted hunger and saturation numbers. Client and server both need the mod, and the server controls the timing and the pinned items. The mod is open source under the GNU General Public License v3.0 only, and it is published for Fabric, Forge and NeoForge for 1.20.1 – 26.1 across three release versions.

Key features

  1. Daily food craving

A hidden category is chosen each game day, so the food players want changes over time.

  2. Rewarding and penalizing eating

Craved food restores more hunger and gives a special effect, while unwanted food restores less and has a downside.

  3. Pinned favorites

Specific items can be fixed to one category in the config, so they never move into the random pool.

  4. Per-player announcements

Each player receives the day's category message in their own language, and the tooltip shows the category of each item.

What the author says

A Minecraft 1.21.1 NeoForge mod that makes food interesting again. Every game day, each food in the world is secretly assigned a "desire" category. Whether that food turns out to be something you crave, something you are willing to eat, or something you really do not want today changes how satiating it is — and…
