What's Your Server Doing?

by DrownedCloud

What's Your Server Doing? is a Forge management mod that shows server activity in real time, with output appearing in the game itself.

ForgeServer required, client optionalGNU General Public License v3.0 or laterOpen source1.20.1

What it does

The mod makes it possible to see what the server is doing while it runs, in real time. Log output is shown inside the game rather than only in the server console, so a server owner can follow activity without leaving the session. It requires Forge on the server, and clients may run it as an optional addition.

The mod is aimed at modpack developers who need to watch a server during testing and tuning, and at server owners who want to keep an eye on what happens in play. Players without operator permission never see the logs, so the output stays with administrators. The mod is open source under the GNU General Public License v3.0 or later and is published for Forge 1.20.1 only, with the latest file 1.20.1-forge-2.0.9 released on 2025-12-26.

Key features

  1. Real-time in-game logs

Server log output is streamed into the game as it happens, so changes show up while the server is still running.

  2. Console control

The log view can be steered from the console, which lets an administrator adjust what is shown without restarting.

  3. Operator-only visibility

Players without operator permission never see the logs, so the output is limited to people who administer the server.

  4. Simplified Chinese support

The interface supports English and Simplified Chinese, so both language groups can read the in-game output.

Use cases

Modpack testing

Developers can watch what a modpack does on a live server during testing, which helps when tracing problems.

Server administration

Owners can follow server activity as it happens and check events without opening the server console.

Who it’s for: Modpack developers testing a pack on a server, and server owners who want to watch activity in real time while keeping logs away from ordinary players.

Questions

Does What's Your Server Doing? need to be installed on the server?

Yes. The server must run the mod, while players may leave it out, so it works on the server alone without needing to be on every client.

Can regular players see the logs?

No. Players without operator permission never see the logs, so the output is restricted to administrators.

Which Minecraft version does the mod support?

Only Minecraft 1.20.1 is listed, and the mod is published for Forge alone.
