Smarter Farmers (farmers replant)

by MehVahdJukaar

With Smarter Farmers installed on a server, villagers replant the crop they just harvested and can work with modded seeds and crops.

What it does

Villagers who farm pick the seed they harvested last rather than the first seed in their inventory. When no crop is being replanted, a farmer chooses a new crop based on the plants growing nearby, which avoids isolated single patches in a wheat field. Farmers also accept and collect seeds from crops, and non-farmer villagers are kept from doing so. While working, a farmer equips a hoe whose tier depends on the villager's level, and farmland is no longer trampled.

The mod covers modded crops as well. Farmers can interact with, plant and replant them. A "farmer plantable on" tag extends planting to blocks outside vanilla farmland, and a "crop replaceable" tag lets farmers harvest special blocks that are not crops. Farmers are immune to sweet berry bush damage, and all villagers accept and breed with modded food items thrown at them. Smarter Farmers requires Fabric API and Moonlight Lib, and Fundamentally Fixed depends on it. It is published for Fabric, Forge and NeoForge, with builds covering 1.16.3 – 1.21.1. Players join without it, since only the server has to run the mod. The mod is not open source and is released under All rights reserved.

Key features

  1. Crop replanting logic

Farmers replant the crop they harvested instead of picking the first seed they carry.

  2. Neighbor-based crop choice

When nothing is replanted, a farmer picks a crop that matches the plants around it.

  3. Seed collection

Farmers accept and pick up seeds from crops, while non-farmer villagers are prevented from doing so.

  4. Level-based hoes

Farmers equip a hoe during farm work, with the tier set by their villager level.

What the author says

Smarter Farmers is a very simple mod that makes farmers a bit less dumb Farmers can now: - Interact, plant and replant modded crops - Replant crops according to some logic. No longer will they pick the first seed they have but they'll try to replant what they just harvested instead - If no crop is being replanted…
