Polytone

by MehVahdJukaar

Polytone lets a resource pack change block colors, map colors, biome-dependent textures, lightmaps, sounds, particles and GUI layout on the client.

What it does

Polytone reads settings from resource packs and applies them while the game runs on the player's machine. Pack authors can set custom block and map colors, dynamic colored lights, dye colors, and biome variant textures, which swap a texture depending on where a block sits. The mod also adds client-side sounds and particles, and lets a pack move or add GUI slots.

Polytone includes backwards compatibility with the color.properties format that Optifine used before, so packs written for that system keep working. It also goes beyond it with options that were not available there. Its design aims for speed and a light footprint while offering wide customization. It requires Fabric API on Fabric, and it is published for Fabric, Forge and NeoForge for 1.18.2 – 26.3 across 20 release versions, under the GNU General Public License v3.0 or later (open source).

Key features

  1. Custom block and map colors

Resource packs can set block colors, colormaps and map colors without changing any game files.

  2. Custom lightmaps and colored lights

Packs can define dynamic colored lights and alter the lightmap that controls how the world is lit.

  3. Biome variant textures

A texture can be chosen by biome, so the same block looks different in forests, deserts and other regions.

  4. Client-side sounds and particles

Sounds and particles can be replaced or added through a resource pack, with no change to the game's files.

  5. Movable GUI slots

Packs can move existing inventory slots and add new interface elements to screens.
