Crimson Curse: Infection

by HAILFIRE5445

With Crimson Curse: Infection installed, a virus left in the Crimson Forests of the Nether spreads into the Overworld and transforms the landscape and the creatures in it.

What it does

The mod turns the infection into a progressing threat. The virus begins dormant in the Crimson Forests, escapes through ruined portals long ago and reaches the Overworld, where fungi and plants adopt it into a branch of multi-cellular life. Once a world has run for five days after its first start, Bloodlinks begin spawning and transforming the terrain around them. Each one takes up a suitable spot, draws nutrients, protects itself and reproduces, and a server owner can control which phase of the infection a world reaches.

Bloodlinks are the main hazard. Their Bloodlink Power gives nearby Crimson mobs boosts to attack damage and movement speed, and damaged entities with the maximum health effect have their current health set down instead of recovering. Infected mobs drop Infected Flesh. Players who ignore the spread for a long time find it grows into a near-unstoppable snowball, so destroying Bloodlinks early is the usual response. The mod requires Polytone, Sodium, [EMF] Entity Model Features and [ETF] Entity Texture Features, and it is released under All rights reserved, so it is not open source.

Key features

  1. Progressive infection

The infection spreads in phases over a world's lifetime and reaches a Mass Threshold that the server can set.

  2. Bloodlink spread

Bloodlinks spawn, drain nutrients to protect and reproduce, and reshape the surrounding land.

  3. Crimson mob boosts

Crimson mobs gain attributes and abilities from Bloodlink Power, though axis mobs, raidlinks and titans are not affected.

  4. Infected Flesh drops

Infected mobs drop Infected Flesh, a material that can be used in progression.

  5. Vanilla-compatible start

Players can begin with vanilla gear, since killing the new mobs gives access to the crafting materials they need.

What the author says

A virus dormant in the Crimson Forests of the Nether escaped to the Overworld long ago, back when the now-ruined portals littering the world were still lit. In this new, much cooler environment, the virus, initially only being a threat to fungi, developed a powerful symbiotic relationship with the vanilla Zombie…
