Cook your food
by MoonFather
Cook your food changes raw food so that eating it without cooking first applies negative effects of varying severity to the player.
What it does
Raw food falls into categories that decide which effects a player receives. A random effect is picked from the set for that category, and the set picked for a food stays in place for a few minutes, so eating the same raw item again extends the durations of the effects already applied instead of adding a new set. Effects range from a short period of slowness, which the author describes as a reminder to cook a rabbit, up to poison, blindness and nausea from items such as rotten flesh.
The server must run it, while players may leave it out. It is released under the GNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 only and is open source. Files exist for Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt across 18 release versions, 1.16.5 – 26.3, with the latest Forge file being mc1.20--1.11 for 1.20.1. Source code, an issue tracker and a wiki are publicly linked.
Key features
Raw food categories
Edible items are sorted into fine, normal, medium and severe groups, each with its own set of possible effects.
Remembered effect sets
The effect set chosen for a food stays in place for a few minutes, and repeated eating extends the current durations.
Configurable effects
Effects are defined in a json file in the config directory rather than hard-coded, so server owners can change them.
Tag-based categorization
Item tags under the cookyourfood namespace move foods between categories, and modders and modpack makers can both use them.

How it compares
Anthropophagy is client and server, released under All rights reserved and not open source, with files for 1.16.5 – 26.3 on Fabric, NeoForge and Quilt. Eating Animations is client-side only, open source under the MIT License and published for Forge and NeoForge across 1.18.1 – 1.21, so it changes animations rather than food effects.

What the author says
This tiny little mod adds a tiny little bit of realism by applying negative effects to players eating raw food. Mojang had a similar idea briefly but then it somehow turned into a pale joke - raw chicken inflicts a bit of hunger, raw pork for some reason gives you nothing. Well not anymore. With this mod, 60 seconds…
