Modest flint overhaul
by MoonFather
Gravel rarely drops flint in vanilla, and Modest flint overhaul changes how flint is obtained from gravel so it makes more sense in play.
What it does
The mod reworks flint from gravel. Obtaining flint becomes more realistic, so a fortune enchantment and digging with a shovel by hand both have a visible effect. Gravel is split into two kinds, and each kind yields flint on different terms, so a player has to know which pile is which. Flint can also come from gravel that generates as a world feature or from a river deposit, and a player who needs more flint is pushed to go underground and look for gravel pockets.
The mod adds one new block, and that block is the altered version of a vanilla block that must behave correctly in pulverizer, crusher and millstone recipes. Mining through a pile that was already searched takes longer, and the drop is limited so the reward keeps its cost. Much of the development went into keeping the mod working alongside other industry and magic mods, and known edge cases with some of them are documented. Bug reports are routed to the issue tracker.
Key features
Realistic flint drops
Gravel yields flint at a rate that reflects digging by hand, fortune enchantments and shovel use.
Two kinds of gravel
Gravel is divided into two kinds, and each kind follows its own rules for flint.
Repeat digging penalty
Mining a pile already searched takes longer, so repeated digging of the same spot gives less flint.
Underground flint sources
Gravel pockets and river deposits underground give extra flint for players who need more.
