Minimalism Leaf Decay
by phoupraw
Minimalism Leaf Decay makes leaves break down right after they are cut from a tree, using a scheduled random tick mechanic on the server.
What it does
Leaves that lose their connection to a log are set to decay immediately, and a random tick can be scheduled for them through a block tag. A blacklist tag lets server owners exclude specific blocks so they never receive that random tick, even when the schedule would otherwise include them. The mod ships with leaves already in its default tag set, so leaf decay works without extra setup.
The mod is server-side only, so players join without installing it, while the server needs Fabric API. It is open source under the Mozilla Public License 2.0, and its source code and issue tracker are public. Files cover 1.20.5, 1.20.6, 1.21, 1.21.1, 1.21.2, 1.21.3, 1.21.4 and 1.21.5, with 0.2.1 for 1.21.1 as the latest file, dated 2025-07-05. Snapshot builds are published as well.
Key features
Immediate leaf decay
Leaves that are no longer attached to a log break down at once instead of waiting for the usual random tick.
Scheduled random tick
A block tag decides which blocks receive a random tick after the scheduled tick runs, so the timing can be tuned.
Random tick blacklist
A second block tag lists blocks that never receive the random tick, even when the schedule is active for them.
Default leaf set
Leaves are included by default, so decay applies to the common leaf blocks without editing any tags.
Compatibility
Latest build for each game version and loader.
This mod also publishes snapshot builds. Snapshots are not shown in the matrix.

Use cases
Lightweight tree clearing
Players who clear forests or build in trees can have the canopy disappear quickly after the logs are removed, without running a vein mining mod.
Server tuning
Server owners can add blocks to the blacklist when a specific leaf type should keep its usual behavior.
Who it’s for: Server owners who want leaves to decay quickly and players who run a lightweight mod set on a Fabric server.
How it compares
Modern Leaf Decay is also server-side only and open source under the MIT License, with files for 1.16.5 – 1.21.4. Shatter Leaves needs the server to run it while clients may skip it, and it is not open source under the MIT License, with files for 1.21.11 – 26.1.1. Mangrove Decay is server-side only and open source under the MIT License, with files for 1.20.1 – 1.20.5, so it targets the same early versions as this mod but not the 1.21 builds.
