ItemPhysic
by creativemd
With ItemPhysic installed on both sides, dropped items float, wood drifts in water and only burnable items burn in lava and fire.
What it does
Dropped items hover and animate instead of lying flat on the ground. Wood floats in water, while stone and other non-burnable items stay intact in lava or fire. Players can pick up items by right-clicking, and throws can be customized. The despawn time of dropped items is configurable, and cacti no longer destroy items resting against them.
This is the Full edition. The description says it must be installed on the server, so a vanilla server needs the separate ItemPhysic Lite build instead. Both sides run the mod, and it depends on CreativeCore and Fabric API. Space Station Craft 14 also requires it.
Files exist for Fabric, Forge and NeoForge across 23 release versions, 1.18.2 – 26.3, and the code is open source under the GNU Lesser General Public License v2.1 only. The latest builds, version 1.8.17, were published on 2026-09-25.
Key features
Floating items
Dropped items hover and rotate, with an enhanced animation that makes them easier to spot on the ground.
Lava and fire behavior
Only items that normally burn in lava or fire are destroyed, while everything else survives the heat.
Custom pickup and throw
Players can pick up items with a right click and adjust how thrown items behave.
Igniting and despawn settings
Dropped items can be set to ignite, and the despawn time before they vanish is configurable.
Cactus interaction
Items that touch a cactus are no longer destroyed by it.

Use cases
Server with the Full edition
A modded server runs the Full edition, and players receive the same floating and pickup behavior after joining.
Vanilla server
Server owners who want to keep a vanilla server use the ItemPhysic Lite build, which does not require the Full version.
Gun rendering
Players who drop 3D guns from supported gun mods see them rendered correctly when the ItemPhysic Guns addon is added to Lite or Full.
Who it’s for: Server owners and players who want dropped items to behave differently from vanilla, including floating, lava survival and configurable despawn.
How it compares
Click2Pick is a Fabric and Forge mod for 1.19 – 1.21.5 under All rights reserved, so its code is not open source. Pickup is open source under the MIT License, is client and server, and covers Fabric and Forge for 1.16.5 – 1.20.6. I See Lava is client-side only and open source under the MIT License, so only the client needs it.
