Minecraft But It's Impossible to Die
by MinexInd
Minecraft But It's Impossible to Die is a game mechanics mod that gives every player permanent status effects, so the usual ways of dying in the game no longer apply.
What it does
The mod ships as a datapack that sets Resistance 255, Fire Resistance, Strength 255 and Regeneration 255 on every player, refreshed each tick. Fall damage and lava damage are turned off through gamerules, which turns the pack into a survival challenge where players can try to die in a normal world and probably cannot.
Gamerules are disabled by the pack itself, but older packs leave some out because the gamerule that freezes the world was added in 1.17. Between 1.13 and 1.14 only the status effects apply, so drowning can still kill a player. Installing the mod loads its own world at the start, and commands are needed to set it up.
Only the server needs the mod to run the pack, while clients may leave it out. The mod is published for Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt, with a data pack option for servers, across 47 release versions 1.13 – 26.3, and snapshot builds are published as well. It is released under All rights reserved and is not open source.
Key features
Permanent status effects
Resistance 255, Strength 255 and Regeneration 255 are applied to every player and refreshed every tick.
Fire Resistance
Fire Resistance is given to players, so fire and lava do not kill them while the pack is active.
Fall damage and lava disabled
Gamerules turn off fall damage and lava damage, removing two of the most common causes of death.
Pack removal
Deleting the datapack from the datapacks folder and running a reload turns the challenge off.

Use cases

How it compares
Crafting The Impossible is a server-side option for the same kind of challenge, licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 license and published for 1.17 – 1.21.8. Drop Head is open source under the GNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 only, covering 1.13 – 26.2 on all four loaders, and the server must run it while clients may skip it. This mod is not open source and is published for 1.13 – 26.3.

What the author says
A survival challenge: try to die in a normal world. You probably can't. The pack gives everyone a set of permanent buffs and turns off every way the game normally kills you. It loads on its own the moment the world starts, no commands needed.
