Wither Ascension

Wither Ascension turns the Wither boss fight into a multi-phase encounter, with four stages in place of the single vanilla fight, and the mod names its boss mechanics in the lead as well as the body.

What it does

The mod reworks the Wither into a boss with four stages. Its health decreases as the fight goes on, and each stage changes the boss's tactics, so a fight that the vanilla Wither ends in a few minutes can last much longer. The attacks include more than fifteen types, among them beams, chains, black holes and lightning. Each attack is preceded by a telegraphed warning, so a player can see which attack is coming and plan a dodge.

The Wither uses an advanced AI that hunts players, avoids blows and runs away when hurt. The arena itself reacts to the fight and becomes corrupted around the Wither. A craftable counter-weapon stuns the boss for a short window, which allows a strike. A second phase can be triggered in a secret rematch, and a kill before the enrage timer expires leads to it. A defeat leads to a brief cinematic sequence and leaves a Wither Trophy that increases reach and damage. Defeating the boss several times grants additional trophies at 5, 25 and 100 kills. A defeat under five minutes respawns the Unbroken, a faster and stronger rematch.

Wither Ascension is published for Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt, with files for 1.21 – 26.2 across 16 release versions, and snapshot builds are also published. The server must run it, while players may leave it out. The mod is available as a data pack for server platforms. It is released under All rights reserved and is not open source.
