Granular Gamerules
by JackFred
Granular Gamerules breaks several of Minecraft's heavily loaded game rules, mobGriefing among them, into narrower sub-rules that a server can adjust individually.
What it does
The mod takes large vanilla game rules and divides them into separate sub-rules. mobGriefing, for example, can be narrowed to a single behavior like creepers destroying blocks through creepersDestroyBlocks, while other sub-rules such as zombies breaking doors follow the parent rule until they are changed. Sub-rules that are left alone keep following their parent, so a server only has to touch the settings it wants to differ.
Beyond splitting existing rules, the mod adds smaller utility rules, for instance for turning off thunder, removing the sleep requirement for underground players, and toggling pvp or enableCommandBlock. It also exposes some common server.properties settings as fake game rules, so they can be changed in game and are written back to the server.properties file. The mod runs server-side only, and dedicated servers can use it as well. Installation needs Fabric API and YetAnotherConfigLib (YACL), and it can be added to or removed from an existing world. Mod Menu is optional and only adds a configuration screen. Files target 1.21 – 1.21.5, with 1.2.0+1.21.5 as the latest build for Fabric and Quilt.
Key features
Sub-rules for mobGriefing
Large rules such as mobGriefing are split so that a single behavior can be controlled without changing the rest.
Parent-following defaults
Sub-rules follow their parent game rule until a server sets them, so only the chosen settings differ.
Utility rules
Smaller rules cover behaviors such as thunder, sleeping underground and pvp, which vanilla does not split out.
Server properties as rules
Some server.properties settings can be changed in game through fake game rules, and the change is saved to the properties file.

How it compares
Detailed mobGriefing is Fabric-only, server-side only, under the MIT License, and covers 1.21 – 1.21.11, so it is narrower in loaders than Granular Gamerules. Better Mob Griefing GameRule is open source under the MIT License, server-side only, and covers Fabric, NeoForge and Quilt across 1.21 – 26.2. Personal Rules is also open source under the MIT License and server-side only, with files for 1.21.4 – 1.21.8. Granular Gamerules is not open source and is released under All rights reserved, with files for Fabric and Quilt only.

What the author says
GG has been archived so I can stay focused on a smaller amount of mods for now. Given modern versions now have data-driven rules, and the ugliness of GG's client code it would make more sense to be a rewrite in the future. These are all done in a way that doesn't break datapacks, mods or server plugins that change…
