Fishing Evolved

by Senior_S

Fishing Evolved rebuilds vanilla fishing with an active reeling minigame, modular rods and fish that depend on where they are caught.

What it does

Fishing Evolved replaces the passive wait-and-click loop of vanilla fishing with hands-on reeling. A catch depends on line tension, distance and fish tugging, and a failed reel can lose the fish. Which species bite is decided by water depth, height above sea level, the surrounding terrain, the world's dimension, the time of day, the weather, the light level and how rare each species is, and fish populations shift over time.

Rods are built from interchangeable reels, bobbers, hooks and bait, and wood, iron and diamond rods carry attachment durability. Fish trackers probe nearby populations to locate rare catches, while bait buckets rebait automatically and bait boxes help nearby fish breed. Processing is handled by buckets, slicing and filleting tools, and scaling knives.

The mod runs on Fabric and Forge for 1.20.1 and needs both sides, so the server and every player install it. Fabric API is required on Fabric, and YetAnotherConfigLib (YACL) is optional. It is open source under the MIT License, with files published on 2026-05-15.

Key features

  1. Active reeling

Catches are made through a reeling minigame that tracks line tension, distance and the fish's tugs.

  2. Modular rods

Reels, bobbers, hooks and bait can be swapped on a rod, changing how it behaves.

  3. Fish tracking

Fish trackers reveal nearby populations, helping players find rare catches in a given area.

  4. Fish processing

Buckets, fillet knives and scaling knives turn caught fish into slices and cleaned products.
