What it does

Players start with a fishing rod, either the base game version or one of the rods added by the mod. Some rods are crafted at a smithing table with string, while others are found only in the world. Casting works as in vanilla, and each fish that bites opens a minigame in which the player must release at the right moment while the bar sits inside a colored region. Each fish moves and resists differently, so some are simple to land and others are not.

Bait can be crafted to speed up fishing or grant special bonuses. Rods have different numbers of bait slots, and combining several bait types stacks their effects. A new block lets players attach hooks, lines and cosmetic bobbers to any rod, and any combination can be built there. Accessories provide effects such as increased catch rates, extra luck, lava fishing and void fishing.

Tide is client and server, so the server and every player need it. It requires Cloth Config API on all loaders. Files are published for Fabric, Forge and NeoForge across 5 release versions, 1.20.1 – 1.21.5, and the code is open source under the Mozilla Public License 2.0. Mod and datapack developers can add fish through JSON files in the fish data system.

Key features

  1. 100+ new fish

The mod adds more than one hundred fish that can be found in the world, each with its own habitat and behavior.

  2. Fishing journal

A journal records every catch and tracks completion progress, biggest catches and fish habitats.

  3. Fishy notes in crates

Notes found in crates hint at the locations of individual fish, helping players plan where to fish.

  4. Fish data system

Fish can be defined with JSON files, so developers can add new fish without changing code.
