FabricServer-side onlyMIT LicenseOpen source1.17 – 1.18.2

What it does

Extension works on Fabric and is server-side only, so players join without installing it. It is open source under the MIT License and published for 1.17 – 1.18.2 with four release versions, 1.17, 1.17.1, 1.18 and 1.18.2. Its latest file is 1.5+1.18.2, published on 2022-03-19.

The mod provides a Namespace Extension placeholder set with the ext prefix, and a nickname feature that exposes a player's nickname through a placeholder. Gamerules follow the Extension name pattern in lowercase, and the rules cover villager trades restocking instantly, item cooldowns, ender pearl cooldowns and chorus fruit cooldowns. A rule can also disable mutually exclusive enchantments. Styled Chat is an optional dependency that can pick up the placeholders in chat formatting.

Key features

  1. Namespace placeholders

Placeholders under the ext namespace return values that other text and chat formatting can display.

  2. Nickname placeholder

A placeholder reads each player's nickname, so formatted output can show it in place of the account name.

  3. Cooldown gamerules

Separate gamerules toggle cooldowns for items, ender pearls and chorus fruit.

  4. Villager trade restock

A gamerule decides whether villager trades restock instantly instead of on the usual schedule.

Use cases

Chat formatting on servers

Server owners can combine the placeholders with Styled Chat to show nicknames and other values in chat lines.

Tuning survival rules

Gamerules for cooldowns and villager restocking let server owners change pacing without editing game code.

Who it’s for: Server owners who want placeholders and gamerules for chat or survival pacing. Players join without installing the mod.

How it compares

Full comparison

Lanitium is a Fabric server-side mod under the Apache License 2.0, published for 1.20.5 – 1.21.4, so it covers a different version range than Extension. NickName Changer is client-side only and not open source; it targets 1.21 – 1.21.11 and changes nicknames on the client instead of exposing them on the server.

Questions

Does Extension need to be installed on the client?

No. Players join without it, since only the server has to run the mod.

Which loader does Extension use?

Extension is published for Fabric only, with files for 1.17, 1.17.1, 1.18 and 1.18.2.

Does Styled Chat have to be installed?

No. Styled Chat is an optional dependency, so Extension runs without it, but the chat formatting example needs it.
