ProxyFox Debug

by Octal

ProxyFox Debug is a Quilt debugging library that wraps standard output and error streams and sanitizes sensitive strings before they reach the log.

QuiltClient or server, optionalMozilla Public License 2.0Open source1.18 – 1.20.1

What it does

Installed next to the Kotlin libraries it needs, ProxyFox Debug adds debugging helpers aimed at development and production diagnostics on the Quilt loader. It replaces the standard output and standard error streams with a proxy, which passes every message through string sanitization so that values such as tokens and IP addresses are masked before they are written out. Kotlin Result failures keep their exception details when they cross suspend function calls.

The mod registers a custom entrypoint under the identifier proxyfox-debug, so other Quilt mods can hook into its sanitization and printing behavior. It targets the Kotlin JVM and is built to be used outside Minecraft as well, which requires the Kotlin standard library instead of the Minecraft-specific Kotlin libraries. Quilt Kotlin Libraries (QKL) and Quilted Fabric API (QFAPI) or Quilt Standard Libraries (QSL) are the required dependencies inside Minecraft.

Either side can run it, and neither needs it. Builds exist for 1.18 – 1.20.1 across ten release versions, and the latest Quilt file, 1.0.0, targets 1.20.1. The code is released under the Mozilla Public License 2.0 and is open source.

Key features

  1. Output stream proxy

Standard output and standard error are replaced with a proxy that handles every printed line before it is displayed.

  2. String sanitization

Sensitive strings such as access tokens and IP addresses are masked in printed output.

  3. Exception details across suspend calls

Kotlin Result failures keep their exception information when they pass through suspend function calls.

  4. Custom entrypoint

A dedicated entrypoint under the identifier proxyfox-debug lets other mods register with the debugging layer.

Use cases

Debugging a Quilt mod

Developers working on a Quilt mod can use the proxy output to trace problems while keeping private values out of the log.

Production diagnostics

Server owners can keep sensitive data such as tokens out of logs that are shared when reporting a problem.

Who it’s for: Mod developers building on Quilt and Kotlin, and server owners who share logs when diagnosing problems. Players who only want gameplay content will find nothing new here.

Questions

Does ProxyFox Debug need Kotlin libraries?

Yes. Inside Minecraft it requires Quilt Kotlin Libraries (QKL) and Quilted Fabric API (QFAPI) or Quilt Standard Libraries (QSL). Outside Minecraft it requires the Kotlin standard library.

Which loader does ProxyFox Debug support?

The mod is published for Quilt only. Its latest file, 1.0.0, targets 1.20.1.

Does the mod have to be installed on the server?

No. Either side can run it on its own, and neither side needs it.
