Conditional Keep Inventory
by Nerjal_Nosk
Conditional Keep Inventory lets the server choose which players and situations keep their inventory on death, through whitelist and blacklist conditions set in a config file or by command.
What it does
The mod changes the normal death rule so that a player's inventory is kept only when the configured conditions match. Conditions are set through a config file or a command, and both a whitelist and a blacklist can be used, so server owners decide exactly when the keep inventory rule applies and when it does not. Installation needs Fabric API on both Fabric and Quilt. Conditional Keep Inventory is server required and client optional, so the server must run it while players may leave it out, and it is published for Fabric and Quilt across five release versions, 1.16 – 1.17.1.
The author describes the mod as a way to allow choosing exactly when Keep Inventory applies, and the source code is public, so other developers can read how it works. The code is released under the MIT License, which makes the mod open source. Builds for 1.16, 1.16.2, 1.16.5, 1.17 and 1.17.1 are listed, and the latest files for Fabric and Quilt are version 1.1.3 for 1.17.1, dated 2022-05-15.
Key features
Conditional keep inventory
The keep inventory rule applies only when the configured conditions are met, instead of on every death.
Whitelist and blacklist
Conditions can be written as a whitelist or a blacklist, so specific cases can be allowed or excluded.
Config file and commands
Conditions can be set in a config file or changed with a command, without editing the code.
Death drop twist
A player's drops on death follow the same conditions, so the outcome of each death depends on the configured rule.

Use cases
Hardcore-style servers
Server owners can keep inventories only in chosen situations, while other deaths keep the normal drop.
Who it’s for: Server owners who want a keep inventory rule with limits, and modpack authors who need a configurable death rule. Only the server needs the mod to apply its conditions.

What the author says
Have you ever wanted to avoid loosing forever your stuff in some critical situations, but not to have the Keep Inventory set to true for all death? Haven't we all hoped not to lose our stuff to a slip in the void yet without losing the thrill to go get it back without dying again when killed by some mob in a deep cave?
