BehindYou (SnapLook)
by Polyfrost
With BehindYou, a player can hold or toggle a key to swap into a rear-facing camera view that moves smoothly between perspectives.
What it does
Each perspective key can be set to hold mode, where the view stays changed only while the key is pressed, or to toggle mode, where a press switches the view on and another press switches it back. The camera movement between views is animated, and its speed can be adjusted. Field of view and camera distance can be set separately for each view, so the rear view can differ from the standard third-person view.
The mod can also apply the same animation, field of view and distance to the vanilla perspective key, so that key behaves like the custom views. The mod is published for Minecraft 1.8.9 on Ornithe and for 1.21.1 – 26.3 on Fabric, and the Forge build is for 1.12.2. It is a client-side only mod, so servers do not need it. It depends on OneConfig, Fabric Language Kotlin and Compose Multiplatform, and OneConfig is bundled inside the mod. The license is a custom one, and the mod is not open source, though its source code and issue tracker are public.
Key features
Hold or toggle keys
Each view can use hold mode, active only while its key is down, or toggle mode, which latches on each press.
Animated camera movement
The camera glides between perspectives at a speed the player can set in the options.
Per-view field of view and distance
Field of view and camera distance are stored separately for each view, so every perspective can have its own framing.
Vanilla perspective key support
The optional setting applies the same animation, field of view and distance to the standard perspective key.

Use cases
Checking surroundings in fights
A player can hold a key to look behind while keeping the forward view in place, then release it to return.
Filming and screenshots
A toggled rear view with a wider field of view and greater distance frames the character for recordings.
Who it’s for: Players who want a rear or alternate camera on their own client, in single-player or on multiplayer servers, without changing the server.
How it compares
TeamColors is open source under the GNU General Public License v3.0 only and covers 1.8.9 – 26.3 on Fabric and Ornithe; it is a different kind of client mod, not a camera tool. FOV Changer is also open source under the GNU General Public License v3.0 only for 1.8.9 – 26.3 on Fabric and Ornithe, but it changes only the field of view. FOV Scroll targets Fabric and Forge for 1.20.1 – 1.21.8 under the MIT License and is not open source.
