Back Up Beds
by AlexModGuy
Back Up Beds lets a player set several beds as respawn points, so a death far from home can return to a bed that was used recently.
What it does
The mod tracks the last five beds a player has slept in, and the number is configurable. When a player dies, the respawn attempt uses the most recent of those beds that is not obstructed, and falls back to the respawn anchor only when no tracked bed can be used. A bed set up outside a dungeon entrance therefore becomes a secondary spawn point, and breaking it after the dungeon is cleared leaves the previous bed as the next target.
The mod is an extremely small simple mod that acts on the server event for sleeping, so the server and every player need it. It is published for Forge and NeoForge, targeting 1.20.1 only, and is open source under the GNU General Public License v3.0 only. Its source code and issue tracker are public. Players of exploration and adventure modpacks are the group it suits most.
Key features
Multiple respawn beds
The last five beds slept in are stored, and the count can be changed in the configuration.
Recent bed fallback
On death the most recent bed that is not obstructed is chosen, before any respawn anchor is used.
Secondary spawn points
A bed placed outside a dungeon can serve as a spawn point while the player is inside, and it is removed from the list once broken.
Server sleep tracking
Beds are recorded from the sleep event, so no item or command is needed to register them.

Use cases
Dungeon and exploration runs
A player places a bed near a dungeon entrance, clears the interior, and returns to that bed after dying inside.
Adventure modpacks
Packs built around exploration can use the mod to keep respawns close to the most likely home base.
Who it’s for: Players and server owners who run survival or adventure worlds in which a single respawn point is inconvenient, on 1.20.1 with Forge or NeoForge.
How it compares
Where'd I Wake Up is a Forge mod for 1.20 – 1.20.1 that is client and server and under All rights reserved, and it is not open source. Spawnless Beds covers Forge and NeoForge for 1.18.2 – 1.21.1, with the same environment and All rights reserved license, and it is not open source. Back Up Beds differs by being open source under the GNU General Public License v3.0 only and by targeting 1.20.1 alone.
