Citadel

by AlexModGuy

Citadel supplies the animation, model-loading and entity-property code that many other mods build on, so it is installed alongside them rather than used on its own.

ForgeNeoForgeClient and serverGNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 onlyOpen source1.14.4 – 1.21.11

What it does

Citadel adds few visible features of its own. Its job is to give other mods a shared framework for animating entities, loading Tabula .tbl and Waveront .obj models, and tracking entity properties. A player usually meets it as a required dependency of a larger mod.

A config option lets server owners change the cap on how many mobs spawn during chunk generation. That matters in worlds with many mob mods, where the default cap can make vanilla mobs hard to find. Developers who want to build against Citadel can follow the guide for adding it to a development environment.

Release builds cover Forge and NeoForge across 21 versions, 1.14.4 – 1.21.11, under the GNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 only. The code is derived from LLibrary, the predecessor that is no longer updated, and is used with permission from its maintainer.

Key features

  1. Entity animation framework

Mods built on Citadel can run advanced animations on entities without writing that system from scratch.

  2. Model loading

Tabula .tbl files and Waveront .obj models can be loaded through the library for use in other mods.

  3. Entity property tracking

Citadel keeps track of entity properties that dependent mods read and write during play.

  4. Mob spawn cap config

A config option sets how many mobs spawn on chunk generation, which helps when many mob mods are installed.

Use cases

Running mob mods together

Players who install several mob mods that require Citadel can lower the spawn cap so vanilla mobs still appear in new chunks.

Who it’s for: Players who use mods that list Citadel as a requirement, and developers who want to build animated or model-based entities on a shared library.

Questions

Does Citadel need to be installed on the server?

Yes. Citadel runs client and server, so the server and every player need the library for the dependent mods to work.

Which loader should a player pick for Citadel?

Forge and NeoForge are both supported. Choose the loader that the mods requiring it are built for.

Which mods require Citadel?

24 catalog mods require it, for example Alex's Mobs, Alex's Caves, Ice and Fire, Domestication Innovation and Rats.

In the catalog

Citadel is one of 3,514 Library mods on ModsFinder, and one of 1,576 Library mods for Forge. 19,862 mods support Minecraft 1.21.11.
