Domestication Innovation

by AlexModGuy

Domestication Innovation changes how tamed mobs behave, adding new states, safer combat near pets and tamable axolotls and foxes on Forge and NeoForge.

ForgeNeoForgeClient and serverGNU General Public License v3.0 onlyOpen source1.18.2 – 1.20.1

What it does

Wolves, cats, parrots, axolotls, rabbits and foxes can be set to wander, stay or follow once tamed, cycled by right-clicking the mob. Tamed pets are not hit by the player's melee swings, projectiles or sweeping edge unless the player holds sneak during the attack, and the mod adds new items and blocks for tamed mobs along with a Pet Enchanting system. Citadel is required for the mod to run.

Axolotls can be tamed by feeding a wild one tropical fish, and tamed foxes are produced by breeding two wild foxes with sweet berries. Most changes also apply to tamed mobs from other mods. The mod is open source under the GNU General Public License v3.0 only, with files published for Forge and NeoForge across five game versions, 1.18.2 – 1.20.1. Both sides need it, so the server and every player install it.

Key features

  1. Three pet states

Tamed wolves, cats, parrots, axolotls, rabbits and foxes cycle through wander, stay and follow, letting pets roam a house.

  2. Protected pets in combat

Attacks, arrows and other projectiles pass through tamed pets, and holding sneak allows the player to hurt them on purpose.

  3. Tameable axolotls

Wild axolotls can be tamed by feeding them tropical fish, removing the need to carry a bucket to keep one as a companion.

  4. Tamed foxes

Breeding two wild foxes with sweet berries produces a tamed fox that can sit, wander and follow like other pets.

  5. Pet Enchanting

A new enchanting system for pets is added alongside new items and blocks that improve the tamed mob experience.

Use cases

Pets around a base

Players who keep dogs or cats can set them to wander the house instead of standing still or teleporting to the owner.

Fighting beside a pet

Players who fight with a companion avoid hitting it by accident, since swings and projectiles pass through tamed pets.

Who it’s for: Players who keep tamed mobs in survival or multiplayer worlds, and server owners who want pet behavior changed for everyone on the server.
