Redomesticate is a Fabric and NeoForge mod that gives tamed wolves, cats, parrots, axolotls, rabbits and foxes new behaviors and items.
What it does
Redomesticate is a multiloader port of Domestication Innovation, rebuilt in part and brought up to the modern modding era. It targets 1.21.1 only, with Fabric and NeoForge builds dated 2026-10-13 as the latest files, and it is released under the GNU General Public License v3.0 only, so the code is open source. Client and server both need it, so every player and the server must install it, and Cloth Config API is an optional dependency.
The mod centers on improving how tameable mobs behave and interact with the world. Several new items and blocks support the tamed mob experience, a new command system governs most changes, and the same rules apply to vanilla mobs and to mobs added by other mods. Conversions such as horses to zombie horses are handled through data, so modpack makers and datapack authors can define tameable mobs, including a tameable zombie built from a single datapack.json file.
Key features
Three pet states
Wolves, cats, parrots, axolotls, rabbits and foxes can be cycled through Wander, Stay and Follow by right-clicking the mob.
Pet enchanting
A new enchanting system lets pets carry enchantments that affect them, and a pet bed can hold them.
Safe pet combat
Unless the player is sneaking, a sword swing or fist attack passes through tamed pets, and arrows and other projectiles do the same.
Taming through items
Taming items and a configurable chance let players tame wild mobs, such as feeding wild axolotls a tropical fish bucket.

Domestication Innovation is open source under the GNU General Public License v3.0 only, but it is published for Forge and NeoForge across 1.18.2 – 1.20.1, so it does not cover Fabric or 1.21.1. Tameable Rabbits is open source under the GNU Affero General Public License v3.0 or later, with Fabric and NeoForge builds for 1.21 – 1.21.4. Tameable Foxes is open source under the MIT License, with Fabric and NeoForge files for 1.20.1 – 1.21.5, and it covers foxes only.
