Adventure Item Names

by BrennanHatton

Adventure Item Names gives weapons, tools, armour and shields randomly generated unique names as they are found throughout a world, with names chosen to suit each item's material, function and shape.

FabricForgeNeoForgeServer required, client optionalCustom license1.20.1 – 1.21.1

What it does

Items that receive a name are picked by weights. By default, 30% of unenchanted items and 60% of enchanted items are named, 5% of passive mobs carry a name, and 100% of villagers do. Each of these chances can be changed, and the naming data is split into 33 categories, some of which are disabled until needed.

Out-of-the-box name lists cover the generic and thematic flavour of the game, and the combinations run into the billions. Server owners can customise the values or supply their own data to generate names relevant to a particular setting, and can build their own naming systems. The mod requires Fabric API on Fabric. It is server required and client optional, so the server must run it while players may leave it out. Files are published for Fabric, Forge and NeoForge for 1.21.1, with the latest build v0.52.0 dated 2026-08-29 on the beta channel. The mod is released under a custom license and is not open source.

  2. Smart naming

Names take into account the material, function and shape of each item, so a name suits what it is.

  3. Customisable weights

Chances for items, passive mobs and villagers to receive names are set by configurable weights, with a default for each group.

  4. Categorised naming data

The naming data is organised into 33 categories, which can be expanded, disabled or grouped as needed.
