Trade Everything

by BrennanHatton

With Trade Anything, a villager accepts almost any item in exchange for emeralds, priced by rarity, recipe cost and durability.

What it does

Trade Anything adds a Trade Anything slot to the villager trading screen. A player right-clicks a villager to open its trades, drops an item into the slot, and the offer updates at once to show how many of that item the villager will take. Taking the trade works like a normal villager trade. Each wandering trader receives one additional offer at the head of its trade list, and that offer uses the same Trade Anything slot found on every villager.

Values come from a rarity table: common items have a baseline of 16 emeralds, and the values are configurable. Recipes for crafting and smithing are worked out recursively, which values a diamond pickaxe at its diamonds and sticks and values a netherite sword at a diamond sword plus the netherite upgrade. Enchantments add value, roughly doubling with each level for premium books. High-value items pay out emerald blocks, and the mod breaks an emerald block into the exact change owed when a player pays with blocks.

Trade Anything is client and server, so the server and every player need it. It requires Fabric API on Fabric, and it is published for Fabric, Forge and NeoForge, with files for 1.21.1 only. Its commands and config are required for crafting, so server owners can adjust values without editing code.

Key features

  1. Item trade slot

A Trade Anything slot on the trading screen takes any item, and the offer shows how many the villager will pay.

  2. Rarity-based values

Common items start at 16 emeralds, and item values are configurable from the rarity table.

  3. Recursive recipe pricing

Crafting and smithing recipes are priced from their ingredients, so a tool's value reflects the materials used.

  4. Durability and enchantments

Damaged tools lose value in proportion to their durability, and enchantment levels raise the price of books and gear.

Questions

Does Trade Anything need Fabric API?

Yes. Fabric API is required on Fabric. Forge and NeoForge builds do not list it as a dependency.

Does the server need the mod installed?

Yes. A server running it needs every connecting player to have it too.

Are item values fixed?

No. Values come from a configurable rarity table, and server owners can adjust them through the config.

What the author says

Every villager (and wandering trader) gains one extra trade at the top of its trade list: a Trade Anything slot. Put any item in the world into it, and the villager offers you a fair exchange for goods it actually wants — coal, wheat, paper, iron, emeralds, whatever that villager buys. No more hoarding chests full of…
