World Border

by Serilum

World Border limits how far the world extends by setting a configurable boundary on each dimension, and it can make the edge loop back on itself.

What it does

Operators set the boundary for the overworld, the nether and the end through the mod's config, with separate coordinates for the positive and negative X and Z directions. Each dimension can be bounded or left open, and the defaults place the overworld edge at 5000 blocks in each direction and the nether edge at 625, so a world stops growing past a chosen size and the file stops growing with it. The idea is to keep a community's players closer together instead of letting them drift apart across an endless map.

When a player reaches the edge, the mod either teleports them back inside by a configurable distance, 10 blocks by default, or loops them to the opposite side of the world, which keeps the map endless while still limiting its size. Messages for approaching the edge, hitting it and looping can each be changed in the config. World Border runs on the server, so players join without installing anything, and it requires Collective. Files cover Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt for 1.16.5 – 26.3, and the mod is released under All rights reserved.

Key features

  1. Configurable overworld border

The overworld boundary is set with four coordinates, and it is enabled by default.

  2. Looping to the opposite side

A player who hits the edge can be sent to the other side of the world instead of being pushed back.

  3. Separate nether and end borders

The nether and end each have their own switch and coordinates, so every dimension can be limited differently.

  4. Adjustable messages and distance

The approach, hit and loop messages can be reworded, and the push-back distance can be set between 0 and 1000 blocks.

Questions

Does World Border need Collective?

Yes. Collective is a required dependency and must be installed alongside World Border on the server.

Do players need to install World Border?

No. It runs on the server alone, so players need nothing extra to join.

Can the edge loop instead of blocking movement?

Yes. The shouldLoopToOppositeBorder option is enabled by default, and disabling it makes players teleport a set distance back inside.

What the author says

World Border is a minimalistic configurable mod which allows the creation of a configurable world border, limiting the world size. This can prevent infinitely large file sizes or keep a community of players closer together. You can also loop around the world when hitting a world border, configurable in the config…
