Chunky Border

by pop4959

Chunky Border is an add-on for Chunky that lets a world border be created, managed and enforced from the Chunky selection.

FabricForgeNeoForgeClient or server, optionalGNU General Public License v3.0 onlyOpen source1.14.4 – 26.3

What it does

Players and server owners pick a region with Chunky's own commands, then turn that selection into a world border with the border add command. Any shape Chunky can generate is supported, including squares and circles centered on spawn. Borders can be listed, loaded back as the current selection, removed per world, or given wrapping so that crossing one edge brings a player out on the opposite side.

Enforcement covers movement and building. Players who move too far past the border are stopped, and teleports that would land outside it are redirected. Permissions allow staff to bypass movement or block placement checks, and a temporary bypass command lets an operator cross the line on purpose. Installation requires Chunky on the same loader, and the mod works on either side, so neither a client nor a server needs it.

The mod is published for Fabric, Forge and NeoForge, and also runs on the Paper, Spigot, Bukkit and Folia server platforms. Builds cover 1.14.4 – 26.3 across 44 release versions. Chunky Border is open source under the GNU General Public License v3.0 only, and public links exist for the source code, issue tracker and wiki. The first file was published on 2022-08-22 and the most recent update is dated 2024-12-08.

Key features

  1. Border creation from selections

A world border is made from the region Chunky has selected, so its shape matches any world shape Chunky generates.

  2. Movement limits

Players who try to move too far past the border are held back, and teleports landing outside it are redirected inside.

  3. Wrapping across the border

Optional wrapping lets a player who crosses one edge appear on the opposite side of the border.

  4. Client renderer and particles

An optional client-side renderer draws the border, and an optional server-side particle visualizer marks it in the world.

  5. Custom border message

The text shown to a player who reaches the border can be changed to suit the server.

Use cases

Limiting a survival world

A server owner can cap how far the world extends by creating a square border around spawn with a fixed radius.

Separate limits per dimension

A border can be set in the overworld, the nether or the end, with a different radius or shape in each.

Who it’s for: Server owners and operators who already use Chunky to pre-generate worlds and want the generated area to end at a defined edge.

How it compares

Full comparison

No Border is a client and server mod under the BSD 2-Clause License for 1.20.1 – 26.2, so both sides need it. World Border is server-side only, not open source and covers 1.16.5 – 26.3, so players can join without it. Chunky Offline is open source under the MIT License for 1.21 – 26.3 and is required on the server, with the client optional.

Questions

Does Chunky Border need Chunky installed?

Yes. Chunky is a required dependency, and the border is built from the selection that Chunky makes.

Does a server need Chunky Border installed?

No. The mod works on either side, so a server can run it on its own without requiring it on every client.

Can a border be removed after it is created?

Yes. The border remove command deletes the border in the currently selected world, and border list shows all saved borders.
