wayland-fixes
by moehreag
wayland-fixes works around Wayland bugs in Minecraft 1.20.2 – 1.20.4 on Wayland desktops, so the game runs with a correct window icon, cursor and desktop entry.
What it does
Modern Minecraft versions have Wayland problems that the mod addresses: it patches the game so that the virtual cursor loads and displays on in-game screens and can set its position. Its sibling mod legacy-lwjgl3 covers similar Wayland compatibility for other versions. The mod runs only on the client, so a server does not need it and players join without installing anything.
On first launch the mod writes a desktop entry named com.mojang.minecraft.desktop into the local applications folder, along with 16x16 and 32x32 minecraft.png icons into the hicolor icon theme. It reads the left pointer cursor from the icon theme folders and asks the system icon resource tool to update the icon cache, so the launcher and taskbar show the correct icon. The mod is released under the GNU Lesser General Public License v2.1 only, and its source code and issue tracker are public.
Files target Fabric and Quilt for 1.20.2, 1.20.3 and 1.20.4, and the latest build is 1.0.1 for 1.20.4, published on 2024-02-08. Fabric API, or Quilted Fabric API with Quilt Standard Libraries, is optional and can be installed alongside the mod.
Key features
Wayland cursor support
The virtual cursor is loaded and displayed on in-game screens, and the mod supports setting its position.
Desktop entry
A com.mojang.minecraft.desktop file is written so the desktop environment can list and start Minecraft.
Window and taskbar icon
Minecraft icons are placed in the hicolor icon theme and registered with the system icon cache.
Legacy sibling mod
The separate legacy-lwjgl3 mod covers Wayland compatibility for different versions of the game.

Use cases
Who it’s for: The mod suits players who run Minecraft 1.20.2 – 1.20.4 on a Wayland desktop and see a missing cursor, a wrong window icon or a missing launcher entry.
How it compares
Custom Cursor is a client-side mod that is open source under the GNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 only and covers Fabric, Forge and NeoForge across 1.20.1 – 1.21.10, so it targets cursor appearance rather than Wayland fixes. Cursor Be Gone is client-side only, open source under the MIT License, and built for Fabric across 1.18.2 – 1.19.3, a range that does not overlap wayland-fixes.

What the author says
Other mods already promise to run the game on wayland natively, yet they also tell you that for example you are going to loose the window icon. This mod doesn't, you won't have to miss out on anything! This is a sibling mod to legacy-lwjgl3 and more or less does the same things in terms of wayland compatibility, just…
