legacy-lwjgl3
by moehreag
legacy-lwjgl3 lets old Minecraft versions run on the LWJGL 3 library instead of LWJGL 2, and the Ornithe loader is required to use it.
What it does
The mod swaps the LWJGL 2 native libraries used by older Minecraft builds for LWJGL 3. Ornithe runs older versions with this library, and the mod depends on Ornithe Standard Libraries, which must be installed alongside it. Only the client needs the mod, since the change affects how the game window and input work on the player's machine.
The mod includes workarounds for bugs on Wayland, a display server used on some desktops, and an IME preedit overlay, which shows text composition from input method editors. Other mods can use a small API package from legacy-lwjgl3 to hook their own text fields into IME input instead of writing separate implementations. Optional settings can be passed through Java system properties or environment variables, and the author lists them in the project documentation.
Builds cover a1.0.4 – 1.12.2 with 112 release versions, and snapshot builds are published as well. The latest Ornithe file targets 1.12.2 and is dated 2026-10-04. Bleeding-edge builds can be taken from the Actions tab of the source repository. The code is licensed under the GNU Lesser General Public License v2.1 only and is open source, and the source and issue tracker are public.
