SoundFix
by moehreag
SoundFix brings several sound-system features from newer Minecraft versions back to 1.8.9 on the Ornithe loader.
What it does
Installed on a client, SoundFix backports modern audio features into Minecraft 1.8.9. Among them are an audio device selection option and software HRTF support for directional audio. Its stated aim is to address problems with the Paulscode sound system that the vanilla game uses, and the latest release line is 1.1.0.
Ornithe Standard Libraries and legacy-lwjgl3 are required dependencies, so both must sit alongside SoundFix in the mods folder. The compiled build needs at least Java 17 to run, which matters for players on older launchers still set to Java 8.
Servers do not need it; each player installs it for their own game. Files are published for Ornithe for 1.8.9 only, with 1.1.0+mc1.8.9 as the latest file dated 2026-03-24. The first public release came on 2025-03-07, and the project is open source under the GNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 or later, with its source code publicly available.

Directional audio on headphones
Players who rely on sound position in 1.8.9 can enable software HRTF to hear directional cues more clearly.
Choosing an audio output
Players with several sound cards or output devices can pick the one that the game should use.
Who it’s for: Players running Minecraft 1.8.9 with the Ornithe loader who want modern audio options or who are having sound issues with the Paulscode system. Server owners do not need to install it, since it runs on the client alone.
