VSplit

by zyxkad

VSplit lets Valkyrien Skies ships come apart when their blocks disconnect, so each piece keeps moving as its own ship.

FabricForgeClient and serverGNU General Public License v3.0 or laterOpen source1.20.1

What it does

When blocks that held a ship together are removed or break, VSplit separates the remaining blocks into independent ships. By default only blocks that directly touch one another stay connected. Special blocks such as torches and buttons follow their own rules and stay attached only to the blocks they are fixed to. Modded blocks can join this logic by implementing the IBlockAnchor interface from vtil, and ship attachments can listen for split events through ISplitListener to define their own behaviour.

VSplit works on Fabric and Forge for 1.20.1 only, and it runs on client and server, so both the server and every player need it. The code is open source under the GNU General Public License v3.0 or later, with public source code and an issue tracker. Files were first published on 2025-11-04 and last updated on 2026-04-18, with version 0.4.0 as the latest file on both loaders.

Key features

  1. Ship splitting

A Valkyrien Skies ship is divided into separate ships when the blocks holding it together disconnect.

  2. Direct-neighbour connections

By default, only blocks that touch a neighbouring block are treated as connected when a split is checked.

  3. Special block rules

Torches, buttons and similar blocks stay attached only to the blocks they are fixed to, instead of the default rule.

  4. Split listeners for mods

Modded blocks and ship attachments can plug into the split logic through vtil's IBlockAnchor and ISplitListener interfaces.

  5. Falling trees and ship cleaning

Trees cut down by a player can fall as physics objects, and a configurable cleaner removes leftover ship scraps on a schedule.
