MISS
by zyxkad
MISS, a library by zyxkad, forwards a Minecraft connection over the WebSocket protocol on both the client and the server.
What it does
The mod lets the game connection travel over WebSocket. Both the client and the server can speak the protocol, and the server detects a WebSocket connection on the same port as ordinary game traffic, so no separate port has to be opened for it. MISS is a Java library that other tools can build on.
Setup on the server side involves optional pieces: an Nginx reverse proxy, which can carry the connection, and an SSL certificate if encryption is wanted. The game needs Minecraft Java Edition 1.19 or newer and Java 17 or newer. MISS is published for Fabric, Forge and NeoForge, and it is released under the GNU General Public License v3.0 or later, so the code is open source. The mod is placed in the mods folder like any other.
Key features
WebSocket forwarding
Minecraft connections are forwarded through the WebSocket protocol, letting game traffic pass through web infrastructure.
Shared port detection
The server recognizes a WebSocket connection arriving on its ordinary game port and handles it without a second listener.
Protocol on both sides
Both the client and the server can use the WebSocket protocol, so the forwarding path works from either end of the connection.
Optional proxy and encryption
A proxy and an SSL certificate can be added in front of the connection when a deployment needs them, but neither is required.
Compatibility
Latest build for each game version and loader.
1.21.x5 of 5 versions with builds

1.19.x5 of 5 versions with builds
Only full game releases are shown. This mod publishes no snapshot builds.
Use cases
Who it’s for: Server administrators who run game traffic through a reverse proxy and developers who need Minecraft connections carried over WebSocket. Players who only join a server and never configure the network have no reason to install it.
How it compares
ws2tcp is client-side only, covers only 1.21.4 and is open source under the Apache License 2.0, so it is not a server-side option. SocketPlugin is client-side only, open source is not claimed, and it targets 1.20.1 – 1.21.4 on Fabric. HttpInfoServer is client-side only, open source under the Apache License 2.0, and covers 1.20.4 – 1.20.6. ProtoWeaver is different in scope: it runs on Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt across 1.14 – 26.1.1 and is released under CC0 1.0 Universal, so its environment is not restricted to the client.
