Vtil
by zyxkad
Vtil is a library mod for Fabric and Forge that exposes several APIs for Valkyrien Skies ships on Minecraft 1.20.1.
What it does
Vtil collects a set of APIs related to Valkyrien Skies. Its Assemble API builds ships out of existing structures and includes compatibility for Create contraptions. The Connectivity API reports how blocks connect to one another, which assembly and ship splitting rely on, and by default it wraps vanilla canSurvive checks, so mod authors can define their own block connections through IBlockAnchor. The Teleport API moves Valkyrien ships and passengers into another dimension while conserving velocity.
The mod also provides a vtil assemble command and a Current API, and it adds compatibility with other mods for the Valkyrien Skies features it exposes. Vtil is published for Fabric and Forge, and a matching Valkyrien Skies setup is needed for its ship features to work. Source code and an issue tracker are public, and the code is licensed under the GNU General Public License v3.0 or later, so it is open source. More detail on individual methods is in the Javadoc.
Key features
Assemble API
Turns existing blocks into a Valkyrien Skies ship through an API that other mods can call.
Connectivity API
Reports block connectivity, with a default that wraps vanilla canSurvive and hooks for custom block connections.
Teleport API
Moves ships and their passengers into another dimension while keeping their velocity.
Assemble command
A vtil assemble command lets players trigger ship assembly directly from the chat.
Compatibility
Latest build for each game version and loader.
Only full game releases are shown. This mod publishes no snapshot builds.
Use cases
Ship-building mods
Mod authors who add contraptions or structures to Valkyrien Skies can call the Assemble and Connectivity APIs instead of writing their own logic.
Cross-dimension travel
Servers that move ships between dimensions can use the Teleport API so passengers travel together.
Who it’s for: Mod developers building on Valkyrien Skies, and server owners who want assembly or dimension-travel features with Create compatibility.
How it compares
VLib is a server-required library for Fabric and Forge on 1.20.1 under the Apache License 2.0, with a client-optional environment, while Vtil is client and server. Assemble is a Fabric-only mod for 1.18 – 1.18.1 under the MIT License, so it covers a different version range. Valkyrien Skies itself is client and server, spans 1.12.2 – 1.20.1 and is under the GNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 only, which makes it the base game that Vtil builds its APIs on.
