Tsuki Chat
by Meatwo310
Tsuki Chat converts romaji typed into chat to Japanese text on the server, so players who type in Latin letters see the Japanese form.
What it does
Messages sent in romaji are transliterated into hiragana and Japanese through the Google CGI API. Messages that already contain Japanese characters pass through unchanged, and a configurable prefix lets a player skip conversion for a single message. The conversion is server-side only, so players join without installing anything, and the setting applies to everyone on the server.
The mod is a server-side chat tool modeled on the LunaChat plugin. It interprets basic markdown in chat, and each player can switch the conversion on or off through a personal setting. Server owners fine-tune which features are active by editing the config file. Tsuki Chat requires Fabric API on Fabric and Forge Config API Port on Forge and NeoForge, and Mod Menu is optional for the settings screen.
Files are published for Fabric, Forge and NeoForge, for 1.18.2 and 1.20.1. The latest Forge and NeoForge build is forge-1.20.1-v1.3.2, and the latest Fabric build is fabric-1.20.1-v1.3.1-alpha, released in December 2024 on the alpha channel. The mod is released under the MIT License and is open source; its source code and issue tracker are public.

How it compares
Sol Chat is server-side only, open source under the MIT License and published for Fabric and NeoForge across 1.21 – 1.21.10, so it targets newer versions than Tsuki Chat. Japanese IME (JIME) is client-side only, open source under the GNU General Public License v3.0 only, and runs on Fabric and Quilt for 1.20 – 1.20.4, so it changes what each player types rather than the server's chat. TeaBridge is server-side only and open source under the MIT License, covering Fabric and Quilt for 1.19.2 – 1.21.1, and does not handle romaji conversion.
