The Lost Cities

by McJty

Players who want to explore an abandoned city instead of ordinary overworld terrain can generate one with The Lost Cities, which replaces the usual surface with ruined districts.

FabricForgeNeoForgeServer-side onlyMIT LicenseOpen source1.10.2 – 26.2

What it does

The mod generates large procedural cities with roads, buildings, green spaces, elevated routes, river crossings, rail lines, underground passages and metro lines. Building interiors can hold loot, spawners and cellars, and the amount of damage and decay is adjustable. Cities are placed into the normal terrain, so The Lost Cities can be combined with biome and terrain mods. Depending on the chosen profile, a world may contain dense city regions, rare cities set apart by wilderness, heavily damaged ruins, tall skylines or domed cities.

The Lost Cities is server-side only, so unmodded clients can connect to a server that runs it. Fabric API and Forge Config API Port are required dependencies, and The One Probe is optional. The mod is open source under the MIT License and is published for Fabric, Forge and NeoForge across 23 release versions, 1.10.2 – 26.2. Ten catalog mods require it, including Lost Cities Modern Tweaks and Lost Cities Filter.

Key features

  1. Procedural city generation

Streets, skyscrapers, apartment blocks, factories, parks and flooded areas are generated across the overworld.

  2. Transport infrastructure

Highways, bridges, railways, tunnels and subway systems connect the city districts.

  3. Built-in generation profiles

Several profiles cover very different styles, from sprawling city regions to rare cities separated by wilderness.

  4. In-game configuration screen

A configuration screen lets players select a profile and adjust city generation without editing files.

  5. Data-driven assets

Buildings, palettes, city styles and world styles are defined in data files, and custom profiles can control frequency, height, damage, explosions, terrain and loot.

Questions

Which dependencies does The Lost Cities require?

Fabric API and Forge Config API Port are required. The One Probe is optional and adds extra information in the game.

Can the city profile be changed after the world is generated?

Changing the profile only alters chunks generated afterward and can produce sudden borders, so the profile should be chosen before the world is created.
