In Control!

by McJty

With In Control!, server owners set mob spawn rules, spawn properties, loot and experience through JSON files that the mod reads at startup.

FabricForgeNeoForgeServer-side onlyMIT LicenseOpen source1.10.2 – 26.2

What it does

The mod is built around five rule files. spawn.json blocks spawns of chosen creatures under set conditions and can also change properties of a mob when its spawn is allowed, such as maximum health. summonaid.json applies the same structure as spawn.json, but only to reinforcements. spawner.json, available from 1.16 on, adds spawn rules under set conditions. potentialspawn.json, available only for 1.12, removes and adds spawn rules and is evaluated before spawn.json, so any new mob allowed there must also be allowed in spawn.json.

loot.json controls what mobs drop on death based on several criteria, and experience.json controls how much experience a player gains from killing mobs under the same kind of criteria. Fabric API is required on every loader. The Lost Cities is optional. Players join without it, since only the server has to run the mod. Files are published for Fabric, Forge and NeoForge across 19 release versions, 1.10.2 – 26.2.

Key features

  1. Spawn blocking

Chosen creatures can be prevented from spawning when set conditions are met.

  2. Spawn property changes

When a spawn is allowed, properties such as maximum health can be altered for that mob.

  3. Reinforcement rules

A separate summonaid file governs reinforcements, using the same format as spawn rules.

  4. Loot control

Drops from killed mobs can be set by criteria in a dedicated loot file.

  5. Experience control

The experience a player gains from killing mobs is set by criteria in its own file.

Use cases

Tuning a survival world

A server owner can reduce spawns of a creature type or adjust mob health to change the difficulty of a world.

Adjusting rewards

Loot and experience files let an owner change what a kill returns without editing other mod data.

Who it’s for: Server owners and modpack builders who want to control mob spawns, drops and experience through rule files rather than code.

How it compares

Full comparison

Mob Control runs on client and server, works on Fabric, Forge and NeoForge for 1.20.1 – 26.1.2, and is not open source. Easy Mob Spawn Control needs the server and is optional on the client, targets 1.19.2 – 26.3 and is not open source. Only Zombies Spawn is server-side only, open source under the MIT License and covers 1.18.2 – 26.2, but it limits its scope to zombies.
